Ben Vorono and Samuel Kentiesch can be seen as the kind of maverick design teams that really make fashion exciting and proves that you don’t necessarily need formal training to be able to create amazing clothing. I first became aware of Braille a little while back and have seen the brand go from strength to strength. Utilising their respective backgrounds in Sociology and Graphic Design the boys from Braille have managed to come up with successive collections that are instantly wearable and quite unlike other young London menswear brands.
The brand is one that is driven by the tactile nature of clothing and the relationships we forge with each piece by simply wearing them. In light of this you can imagine what a pleasure the pieces from Braille’s latest SS11 collection must be to wear. Entitled Colt, the collection sees us travelling to the Agua Caliente Canyon of Palm Springs. The scenery is beautifully rendered in pieces that reflect the topography whilst sculpting the body beautifully. The colour palette of charcoal, sand and dust and the discrete use of fastenings combine to keep the collection clean, classic and still undeniably modern. A stand out piece that I feel sums up the aesthetic of Braille perfectly is a linen suit done in a soft shell grey colour with a snake skin panel running around the middle of the jacket. It embodies what I love so much about the brand: an undeniable reverence for classic menswear but with a real feel for balancing disparate elements and creating something timeless and thoughtful at one and the same time.
Soon to be stocked at Wolf and Badger from the 1st August and Beyond the Valley from 1st September this brand is definitely one to watch for any discerning follower of fashion who doesn’t go in for making brash statements but still wants to be noticed for sartorial savoir faire.
